Happenings of Spring 2012

As usual, we had a busy spring.

Since we had to replace Ruston's carpet when the house flooded, we went ahead and converted it into a "big boy" room.  We bought a few things each month and it's finally finished.  He loves his new desk and toy baskets.  And thanks to the TV, he'll actually stay in there and play for a good amount of time.  It's nice to actually have our living room back!  It's been a play room for 2 years now! :)
He's still not back in his bed at night yet (I know, I know..don't judge :)), but he's been taking naps in there.

We celebrate Dr. Suess' birthday at school by having guest readers come all throughout the day.   I convinced Danny to come in uniform and read to the kiddos.  They LOVED it!

Ruston loves coming to Mommy's school.  Sometimes I'll grab him from Amy on Friday's and let him come play for a little while.

Ruston's Mother's Day Out program had their art show in March.
Ruston showed off his handprint calendar and his painting.
These are Ruston's awesome teachers, Ms. Mary and Ms. Meredith.

Danny took Ruston out to Nana's one Saturday and they had all kinds of fun driving in the little truck.

He's getting a little better each time we go to get a haircut.

We met Ainsley and Lauri at the park next to my school one day for some play time.

For the 3rd year in a row, Danny and I went with Joe David and Melanie to see Suede perform at the rodeo.  We love them! I'm hoping to go this summer and see them at Cedar Street. :)
Danny was nice enough to hold a lady's purse and carnival winnings while she used the Port-o-Potty.

After a really great job eating dinner, Ruston got to experience his first DQ Blizzard!

My school had their Spring Carnival at the end of March.  Danny and Ruston came up there for a little while and played with McKenzie, Tyler, and Amy.  The bounce house is always a hit.
They liked throwing the water balloons against the building too!

Doing a little fishing...

We celebrated MawMaw birthday at Chili's.

At the beginning of April, we headed up to Houston for Mason's 2nd birthday.
Natalie did the cutest Sesame Street theme.  The cake was amazing!
Ruston helped Juaquin out with the yard work.
The pinata is always a favorite!

My healthy boy went for the raisins... I think we ended up with like 9 boxes!
Sweet Blythe enjoyed being outside.

The next weekend was Ms. Braelynn Faye's 1st birthday!  It was a Sesame Street theme too!  Megan had little snacks that went with each of the characters from the show.

Springtime flew by with so many fun happenings!

The BIG 6-0

My dad turned 60 in March!
We went to their house to hang out and have dinner that night.
Dad likes Red Velvet Cake, so I made The Pioneer Woman's sheet cake.  De-lish.  Ruston helped himself to bite sized pieces of frosting.
 After dinner we opened presents.

Thanks to my new obsession, Pinterest, I found a gift idea I just knew Dad would love.  It was called 60 Years of Memories.  I didn't get a picture of it all bundled together, but you get the idea.
We typed up a letter and sent it out to Dad's family and friends from different stages in his life.  It was hard finding contact info for a lot of people, but I was surprised at how many people we actually found.  The letter asked everyone to share a memory they had of Dad.  They could email or mail it back to us.
The idea was to get a total of 60 memories, one for each numbered envelope.  As the deadline got closer, I was a little nervous...we didn't have many.  But we ended up having more than 60! There were a couple envelopes that had 2-3 memories put together.
Dad liked it! He started crying on the very first envelope.  Dad went back and forth between crying, laughing, and "correcting" the stories that people sent.  My poor Grandpa cried the whole time. :)
As people emailed in their memories, a lot of them asked if/when there would be a party.  So Melinda set up a surprise party!  We invited all the people that sent in memories and brought them for everyone to read.  Dad said he knew something was up when Melinda kept stalling and making them later for dinner. :)

Of course the tractor man had to drive the old school tractor in the parking lot.

Thanks to everyone that came out to help celebrate Dad's birthday!!

School's Out for SUMMER!!

School is out and I could not be more excited for this summer break!!  We've already had a vacation, a sickness, a road trip, a nasty flat tire, and our first field trip.  Before getting to all that fun though, I've got to go back and catch up on what went on during the spring time!  I have tons of posts in my drafts, so I've gotta get all those up.  Yay for summer and time to do things other than work! ;)

Elmo Makes Music!

We went back to Sesame Street Live again this year!  It was such a cute show this year, called Elmo Makes Music.  I just knew Ruston would love it because he is so in to music and dancing right now!
He acted a lot like he did at the Monster Truck show for most of it.  His eyes were glued to the stage, but there was no emotion!  He did a little dancing to one song toward the end, but only scrunched tightly into my lap. :)
He was all smiles and cuddles when the show was over though.
